Pakistani Cinema Shines in Minsk: Films 'Kamli' and 'Aik Hai Nigar

Two Pakistani Movies screened in Minsk as part of the Minsk International Film Festival “Listapad”
The Embassy of Pakistan arranged screening of two Pakistani films, “Kamli” and “Aik Hai Nigar,” as part of the Minsk International Film Festival ‘Listapad’, marking Pakistan’s first ever participation in this prestigious festival. Around 150 guests including Ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, Belarusian dignitaries and media representatives attended the screening of “Kamli” film on 21 November 2023.
Directed by renowned filmmaker Sarmad Khoosat, “Kamli” is a captivating drama that explores the complexities of love, sacrifice, and societal expectations. Whereas “Aik Hai Nigar,” directed by the talented Adnan Sarwar, is a movie based on the life of Lieutenant General Nigar Johar, the first female General in the history of the Pakistan Army.
The films received widespread acclaim for their powerful narratives and stellar performances, making them a significant addition to the Minsk International Film Festival line up.
In his short speech prior to the screening of Kamli movie, Ambassador of Pakistan to Belarus highlighted the importance of broadening cultural cooperation including in art of cinematography between the two countries. Briefly touching upon the themes of the two movies, the Ambassador underscored the scope of production of dramas and movies in Pakistan and appreciated the filmmakers, musicians, and creative minds behind both these films. He hoped that their work would resonate with audiences here at LISTAPAD and contribute to the richness of cinema.
In his remarks, the Deputy Director General of BelarusFilm Skalaban Pavel Vitalievich appreciated participation of Pakistan in this year’s film festival and assured his fullest cooperation and facilitation for similar future activities.
The Ambassador extended his gratitude to the organizers for their support in screening the Pakistani movies as part of the festival. He hoped that the cinematic journey would help promote cultural exchange between Pakistan and Belarus.
